Port Panama City’s Certified Site is Open for Business

In January 2015, Port Panama City gained certification for a 54 acre site at their Intermodal Distribution Center (IDC). The certification was achieved through Gulf Power Company’s Florida First Sites program in partnership with international site selection firm, McCallum Sweeney.

The industrial site was the fourth in the northwest Florida region to become certified and is served by Genesee & Wyoming’s Bay Line Railroad, making it the only site in the program to offer rail. The Florida First Sites program was designed to create project-ready properties with the due diligence complete to minimize risk and accelerate speed to market.

“The vision for having a certified site to attract economic development projects began years ago. Port Panama City has been investing in the IDC because this is the future of development for us,” said Wayne Stubbs, Executive Director of Port Panama City. “This property gives us a unique offering to help attract jobs, investment and trade.”

In addition to housing the certified site, the IDC also features a 250,000 square foot distribution warehouse. Most of the building is being occupied by AA Advantage, a 3PL company. Last year, the Port expanded the warehouse and has 100,000 square feet of Class A distribution space available.

FedEx ground also has a facility in the center and the Port just partnered with Bay Line to operate a new Choice Terminal bulk transload facility. The center is connected to Port Panama City with signalized access to Highway 231, a four lane divided highway and the railroad.

“The IDC is a tremendous asset to economic development. It has many features that a manufacturing or distribution and logistics company would find desirable and it has superior transportation access” said President of the Bay Economic Development Alliance, Becca Hardin. “We love talking to companies about this property because their eyes light up. It’s only a matter of time before it fills up.”
